The first thing a TV journalist will ask a PR is “what can we see?” We answer that question for you, and can help you provide broadcasters with the visuals they would want to illustrate your story.
Experience tells us that given two stories – one that comes with visuals, and the other that doesn’t – your time strapped broadcast journalist will gratefully take the former. B roll is often the answer.....
B-roll for Laymen’s: A Shout producer and camera crew would shoot ‘news style’ footage covering your story including interviews with spokespeople and sound bites from key contributors. We would then package this material up into roughly 10-15 minutes of select shots which can be dubbed to tape or placed on an online ftp site and made available to download. Our media relations team would then verbally sell the story to the broadcasters and offer up the B-roll to them as an incentive to run the story. Remember B roll is not a finished product – it will be re edited by the broadcaster, and possibly mixed and matched with footage they’ve shot themselves.
